Last week when I was interviewing my grandmother I asked her if she thinks that HIV/AIDS is an issue in her communty. She responded by telling me " Kellie I live in a old folk community" ... Mrs. Linda replied to my discussion and said that HIV is not forgotton in the senior community and that it is actually on the rise. So I wanted to investigate my self...I found this power point that is a little out dated but helpful http://www.doh.state.fl.us/Disease_ctrl/aids/trends/slides/Seniors02.pdf
I think I need to have a little talk with my granny :)
DID YOU HEAR....

I watched that video and at first I was like "That video made her smile???" It started off sad but then I got to the motivational part. I liked how the boy was talking about the things he liked to do, explaning that he was just like any other kid except for the fact that he has to take medication every day. I also liked how he was telling kids with HIV to live life to the fullest. It was a sad, yet inspiring video.
ReplyDeleteHi Kellie!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you've got the right attitude... I definitely would have assumed that it wasn't very talked about or prevalent in the senior community, but like you found that's false.

That has some myths vs. truths about seniors and HIV.
I will have to check out the the video you poste the link to, I love inspirational stuff!
Hi Kellie, this was a great video. It just goes to show that babes speak the truth. Never let anyone put restrictions on who or what you want to be in life. Great story! oh and Kudos to granny! A little awareness never hurt anyone at least she'll know you care about her health. have a good week.
ReplyDeleteWow! You know I honestly never thought how HIV/AIDS may be affecting the senior community. Im glad you brought this up. Now I can keep this in mind as I continue to delve into this course.
